Plasma Theory Group


Our group is focused on the theoretical and computational studies of fusion and magnetosphere plasmas. The main topics of our research are gyrokinetic theory and applications and nonlinear plasma phenomena. This includes gyrokinetic particle-in-cell simulations of drift-wave instabilities; momentum transport, zonal flow dynamics; drift-Alfven turbulence theory; kinetic description of MHD modes, such as TAE, EPM etc.

The group participates in the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Scientific Discovery through Advanced Computing (SciDAC) program (GPS, GSEP and CPES projects) via the flagship fusion code GTC. The significant part of our research activity if related to the ITER project.
